"Biosphere" Ecosculpture
metal, wild grapes
Kyiv,
H - 350 cm
2015
"Biosphere" is the first ecosculpture in Kyiv. The bottom is planted with the decorative ivy, that entwines construction completely over time. The art object is going to be constantly transforming on the eyes of the audience. The project is intended to win the awareness of the recipients about the ecological problems in the urban space.
The sculpture is molded from metal rods as a good-sized hemisphere. It’s a place for sitting, covered with the reinforced epoxy resin, which will provide an opportunity to sit directly on the sculptures like on the banks (epoxy resin is warm like wood). The art object will be permanently visible, so the sculpture will not be static or “dead”. In winter it will become almost transparent, green in spring and summer and bright red in autumn. This project aims to draw viewers' attention to the landscaping problems the urban space. After all, ivy is a long-known and easy way to plant plants in an urban space, that might not seem usable as a recreational area.
